This book isn't a True Story.
Its original and written like its been well researched by the author Joseph Knox and Evelyn Mitchell who sends over lots of details to Joseph.
Book is written in interview format.

Plot of this book is.

A 19 year old Girl called Zoe Nolan twin sister of Kim goes missing from her Student accommodation in Manchester were she is studying.

Lots of her closest friends are interviewed including her Boyfriend Andrew, twin sister Kim, Liu her flatmate, Jai and another friend called Fintan. Police are completely baffled. They suspect Jai as he has been providing Zoe with drugs and are also suspicious of Andrew her boyfriend.
Her Parents quickly arrive on the scene, Her Father Robert is also a bit dodgy.
Police draw a blank.

Kim does her own investigating and it takes her to France.
A few red herrings later. Everyone blaming each other.
Jump 7 years later Zoe is still missing.
A sex tape is leaked to the Press of Andrew with Kim.
Kim tries to unravel the mystery it turns out that the person who leaked the tape was Fintan whose real name was Connor, (Evelyn who was conducting these interviews confronts him he kills her then kills himself)

Might never know what happened to Zoe.

Good book but I think it could have been a bit shorter.

I am not sure how this book got so many 5 star reviews. The author can definitely write interesting characters but the story in this case was the downfall it took forever to develop, there were too many unneeded details that ultimately had no bearing on the story, and the intertwining of 3 storylines doesn’t really come together.
Yeah this book was well written but the story or more accurate the stories just weren’t told well nor were they that interesting, so the book just dragged on.

Thank you to Doubleday and Netgalley for the chance to read this advanced copy in return for an honest review.

Zoe Nolan is a young English girl who goes away to college in Manchester. She walks out of a party at her dorm and is never seen again. As the police investigate, they come to realize that her life wasn't exactly as it seemed.

Fast forward seven years later and an author named Evelyn Mitchell is attempting to tell Zoe's story in a bid to help solve the mystery and bring Zoe home. She begins to piece together the story of Zoe's disappearance through interviews with her friends, family, and the authorities in charge of the case. As she uncovers more information, she begins to receive odd calls and strangers appearing at her house without warning. As she proceeds with the writing she reaches out to an author she admires, Joseph Knox, for help and early reading of her book as it progresses.

There appears to be a new genre called true crime fiction. The author places him or herself in the story as a prominent character and frames the story as a true crime novel. There have been a few books that have pulled this off perfectly but sadly I do not feel this is one of them. I found the format a little less than fluid and there was far too much going on. As a reader, I like to be emotionally invested in the main characters but I felt no connection to these characters and wasn't excited to get to the end of the book.

After making his debut with the wonderful Aidan Waits seires, Joseph Knox is back and better than ever with this very different, truly original contribution to the thriller genre.

It's been seven years since Zoe Nolan, a university student of nineteen seemingly vanished in to thin air, never to be seen again. Evelyn Mitchell, an aspiring writer, has taken a special interest in this still unsolved mystery and dives head first in to the case, determined to piece together what really happened that fateful day. Through interviews, correspodences and transcripts the lines of reality and fiction blur leaving the reader in desperate need of a reminder to not believe everything you read.

As a real true crime junkie, I jumped at the chance to read this story as soon as I came across it, and while I knew Knox was a talented author I had no idea what I was signing up for but I knew whatever it was, I was loving being drawn in to the twists and deception and genius that is True Crime Story. I must admit, I've been sitting on this one for a few days, not quite sure how to go about writing a review as it truly reads exactly like a true crime case, once simply cannot approach this book the same way they would a clearly fictional novel.

That being said, if true crime books, shows, and articles are your thing you're likely going to love this wonderful lie, even as you struggle in frustration to separate fact from fiction.

Highly recommend!

Thank you Netgalley, Sourcebooks Landmark, and the supremely talented Joseph Knox for granting me an advanced e-copy in exchange for my honest opinion. This is one I cannot wait to purchase as there's a space on my bookshelf made for this wonder!
