Hayk Khachatrian (1926–2001)

An usual collection of biographical sketches, most no more than a paragraph or two long. The author covers Armenian queens dating back as far as about 800 years before Christ, the result being that he has little to say about many of them. (When the queen's name is unknown, he cheerfully names her himself.) But in spite of the paucity of records, Khachatrian is able to give some sense of who these women were, or might have been. He relies mainly upon Armenian legends and folk tales to accomplish this.

I'm not sure just how much of the book to take as strict fact, but it's certainly an intriguing look at Armenia's royal past. I never knew they even had queens.… (mais)
