This golden book traces flight from the days of early man watching the birds soar through the air to the legend of Daedalus and Icarus to balloons to early airplanes and dirigibles. Those early airplanes heralded the Golden Age of Aviation where pilots like Charles Lindbergh and Jimmy Doolittle set aviation records.

But early planes, made of wood and fabric, gave way to metal planes such as the Ford Trimotor. Large planes flew across the ocean; small propeller planes served many uses from training aircraft to crop dusters. Airplanes continued to evolve as did helicopters. Airplanes carried passengers, help defend nations, set new aviation records. The world of flying machines expanded to include rockets, space capsules, satellites, and space shuttles.

Young readers interested in flying will enjoy exploring the roots and development of aviation with this full-color oversized book.
