This book was terrible. It was wandering and I still don't see what the point of it was. Not to mention that the MMC gave me the heebie-jeebies. It was partly due to having a narrator voice the character's thoughts but the MMC only had one emotion when seeing his wife--lust. It was gross and icky. He never saw anything beyond her appearance.

I got this as a free book for my kindle. I'm not sure what I expected, but I'm fairly certain I got much more than anticipated. This was an exciting book. There were several times I found myself wanting to scream at the heroine to trust her gut. I could feel the bad things coming, but, of course, she ignored the warnings. The heroine is relatable in a sheltered and naive way and the "tainted" characters who have been introduced are interesting. We've heard the human viewpoint that has been told to the heroine and I'm hoping the next book will give us the alternate perspective. I plan to continue the series. Book one was definitely worth more than I paid for it.… (mais)
I am thoroughly enjoying this series. I find myself caught up in Hazel's story and wondering how life will play out for her. It was nice to get to know more of the Tainted characters in this book as well. I went to Kindle Unlimited intending to borrow the next book and keep going, but it looks as though I will have to wait on that one since it doesn't exist yet. I definitely plan to pick it up once it's available.

I just was not enthralled the way I thought I would be based on the cover. The couple never once is as peaceful together as the cover makes them out to be. Also, they only had one interaction before the 60% mark of the book.
Tropes: forced marriage, enemies to lovers [although the lovers part has yet to come]
Content: Almost all of MC's family ( fiance) was killed, detailed fighting, no romantic content
