I will admit that when I read [Parkhurst][[Harmony]] a few years ago, I thought it was about the Son-Rise program, since at that time I only knew of it as a residential program. The method described by Kaufman is one which is applied by parents rather than in a residential treatment center. So, my opinion is still unconfirmed whether [[Harmony]] refers to an earlier version of the method.
My child with autistic behaviors is 35. He basically predates all the treatment methods, so never had the advantage of early treatment but has gone thru all kinds of 'alternative' treatments. Part of me would like to try this method, & I've taken note of the website, but another part is sceptical that it will work, that I will have the resources (especially in this covid-restrictive world) to actually carry it out, that my child's blindness will bring in other inhibiting factors that the Son-Rise method can't overcome. I have gotten reminded of cheering on my son's successes and basically giving a muted response to negative behavior (i.e. bed wetting), but have no idea how I would effectively give a muted response when I am in the midst of being bitten. There is also the cost factor. Yes, the Son-Rise program does state they have scholarships but...… (mais)
