Profound book explores the prevalence in violence in children's conversations, play, and ideation. Research-backed and practical, it outlines some possible solutions to ensuring violence is dealt with in a developmentally appropriate way.

This was a fascinating observational/anthropological type of look into the minds of a group of 5 and 6 year olds. Not much in terms of parenting type advice . . . which was nice.

Katch doesn't really discover "the meaning of children's violent play," as the title promises. Instead, Katch — who comes across as naive — narrates her encounters with, and reactions to, the play of the elementary-school children she teaches. I didn't find anything generalizable in the book. If all you seek is a memoir of a somewhat prim teacher, then you may find this book appealing.
