I was 13 when Bruce Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon. I was just beginning my life as an athlete. He was my role model, and one of my heroes. It is sad to see what he has become.

I got up to Chapter 9 - where Caitlyn meets Kris Kardashian. I am not a fan of the Kardashians. I never have been. They are famous for doing absolutely nothing at all. Kind of like Paris Hilton, the Gosselin family, and the Duggar family as well. They are also famous for doing nothing as well.

But at least I had one long held question answered. In the early 1980s, when I was a teenager, one of my favourite movies was the Village People musical - Can't Stop the Music. In the YMCA portion, I always wondered why the dorky lawyer would wear a crop top!! He was supposed to be a man and yet he wears a crop top?

Since Bruce was already thinking of himself as Caitlyn, well that give me an answer. Only took me 40 years to find out!!

The first half of the book was good. But I have no desire to read about Kris and her spoiled daughters so I just stopped reading.

PS - 8 Sept 2020 - It has been announced that the Kardashian show on TV is finally ending. Thank goodness for that. The best news I have heard all year!!!!

A candid telling of her life from Bruce to Caitlyn. An extraordinary open and honest detailing of what is still a relatively little understood diagnosis of dysphoria. Someone who knows they are not the gender they have been identified as.

It is almost impossible to imagine how it feels not to be able to live an authentic life as who you really are. Caitlyn gives us a window into that in its extremes. As an Olympic gold medalist, the world's media always have an interest, and with the age of the Internet, intrusion into the lives of celebrity are more intense.

As a successfully transitioned woman, Caitlyn is using her platform to support other trans people and aid understanding, even though not all trans communities welcome her public presence.

Ultimately, I found a kind person, someone who has lived with complex issues, who acknowledges their failings, and who tries to live a life with as much positivity as possible.
