Pippa Jay

I love Science Fiction Romance and have my firm favourites, but I would be hard-pressed to think of another book that really, really blew me away the way Tethered has. What an amazing and original premise and fantastic world building. Fantastic, yes, yet totally plausable because it's fundamentally all about the difficulties of relationships, irrespective, and in spite, of the origins of the participants. Just like here on Earth. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I love Tyree and Zander, and I especially like that their journey wasn't easy or obvious. Stories where the protagonists coincidentally or conveniently connect are always fun to read, but it's all the more engrossing when there is nothing contrived about characters crossing paths as I feel Pippa Jay has achieved with Tethered. The layers of complexity in this short story grabbed and pulled me along at breakneck speed and once I started, I couldn't and didn't want it to stop.

I always know I've found a great book when I feel emotionally connected to the characters and actually want to get involved in their ups and downs. Tethered does that as an exhilarating and all-encompassing Science Fiction Romance experience with a very satisfying - and excitingly open - ending that makes me yearn for more about Tyree and Zander and their fascinating cultures.… (mais)

spoiler alert ** Kadie woke to the roar of a cloudburner flaming to life bloating out the sun in the city of Nephopolis. She has no memory of her life before. Now, Kadie and the remaining citizens of the city, slave for meager rations under the tyranny of the man known as Dark. Only the occasional distant kindness of her manager, Jev, eases her endless labor, and Kadie's drawn to him. But it's too dangerous to act on her feelings, as the slightest infraction could mean a death sentence; or worse, being thrown to the monstrous Nightcrawlers, who enforce Dark's will. Kadie remembers only briefly how it was before Dark. The superheroes of her time died trying to oppose him, even Blaze, the greatest among them did not succeed. But Dark's costly victory has left him permanently scarred.

Nocturnelle is a rogue superhero, her past a mystery even to herself. She conducts missions with Shadow, the cybernetically enhanced minor hero and member of the remaining Alliance of Super Heroes and Heroines. While there's more then an attraction between the two, Nelle and Shadow aren't willing to risk their partnership with ASHH, when there's important work to be done. Her one goal is to defeat Dark or die trying.

Nelle doesn't realize that Dark's moving swiftly to destroy everything and that Kadie's the one that holds the key to her mortal weakness.

This Cyber punk world that Pippa Jay's has deftly created is a fast-paced action story where love's a risky endeavor for superhero and non hero alike. Ultimately, Kadies underlying courage comes through but how can she, without superhero powers, hope to put an end to the brutality of Dark's regime? I leave you to find out in this delightful book.
