(mais)

Very cool. It puts the album in the context of the times and Dylan's own circumstances. I got a more complete understanding of where the music came from, and when you learn such intellectuals as Philip Larkin are still questioning "Desolation Row" you accept that Dylan's lyricism does not walk a straight line.

A strange combination of travel memoirs, mini-biographies, and music criticism. This is a fun read, and Irwin keeps it light most of the time. There are some laugh-out-loud moments. But, you probably have to have a strong interest in irish music, musicians, and pubs for this to hold up to the end.

I happen to have such interests, so I enjoyed the whole book. But, even if you only read about half of this book, it's a good read.
