It felt like I wandered halfway into a story and therefore have missed out on a lot of aspects of the story. The book is an adaptation of Snow White, but there are name changes and small hints on character history which makes it quite difficult to keep up with the story. At the beginning, the descriptions are difficult to follow and the writing is not linear so the time frame is at times confusing. Nonetheless, as the story goes on, the writing is eloquent and fitting for a fairy tale story.

I really liked this book. It took me awhile to get used to Astarti's name (sorry I'm a 7 year old boy on the inside so Ass-tart-e made me giggle for a bit).

The cover threw me because it looked more like a straight up fantasy, but I guess that's why they say 'don't judge a book by its cover'. There's a lot of world building and it can get over whelming at time but it's worth it. Great villain and great love interest. I really like how characters aren't 'good' or 'bad' usually a mix of the two.… (mais)

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book because I don't read very many in the fantasy genre. But this is a very well written YA fantasy story. I liked the character of Astarti. Even though she lost her Mom as a baby and Belos has been raising her since then and has had her "leashed" to him since she was seven, she is still her own person. She can enter a thing called the Drift where she can move quickly to different places and people can't see her. But she can see the leash in the Drift and Belos can get to her quickly. He is a cruel person and has whipped her multiple times. She stumbles upon Logan who is an Earthmaker and they have an instant connection. Soon Astarti's background starts to become revealed. She and Logan grow closer and the battle begins to take over a Kingdom. There were parts that frustrated me but Astarti is only 17. I will have to say Katherine really knows how to write an ending to make you want to read the next book. I can't believe she did that to us. I want book two now! Go to Amazon.com and download this book if you like fantasy stories. This is a really good one.

I received an ebook from the author for an honest review.
