This is one of the most inspirational science books I have ever read! Many girls do not think they can be good at science, but the title of this book's introduction tells girls otherwise. It says, "Science is a 'Girl Thing,'" and this idea is carried through the rest of the book. This book has chapters on earth sciences, animal biology, computer science/math, plant biology/ecology/the environment, chemistry, astronomy, and physics/engineering. These chapters describe the different areas of science and tell young women how to get more involved in the scientific pursuits they find interesting. This book also has profiles of accomplished female scientists and fun quizzes about science. It is appropriate for upper elementary and middle school students. I love this book because it does an excellent job reminding girls and young women that they can enjoy and succeed in science! I wish that all middle school science teachers had a copy of The Ultimate Girls' Guide to Science in their classrooms.… (mais)
