This book was writtien as World War II war ended and was probably an assigned text for many veterans. There are references to "lion hearted Britain","pygmy Japan', a cartoon of a German getting kicked in the rear end captioned "Getting it in the "Rhur" A map of the Meditterranean theater of war bears colonial labels: French West Africa, Anglo Egyptian Sudan".

The authors were confident the allies would win. There is an excellent map of the lend-leased islands in the Caribbean and a table of equipment lend leased.

Photographs and maps that would probably not appear in a current American history textbook, but that would have been almost current history for the 1944 readers were a map of locations of TVA dams,a table of federal finances by expenditures compared to deficits 1930-1940,A stanza of a earst press jingle was quoted
The Red New Deal with a Soviet seal
Endorsed by a Moscow hand
Thestrange result ofanalien cult
In a liberty-loving land.
Race is covered with a full page drawing of "A Ku Klux Sentinal" and on other page a photograph of Booker T Washington. The authors are sufficiently "politically incorrect" by current standards to write
"...handicapped by the shiftless habits learned in slavery" However, by 1890 nearly a fifth owned their own homes.

While I do not suggest that current history students use this as an introductory text I believe it should remain on the shelves of libraries
and when appropriate used as supplementary material.
