Holy shit! That is true; there wasn't any Coronavirus before Baby Yoda. Okay, so that's circumstantial. But consider that The Mandalorian is an anagram of 'Don, then malaria', and it's pretty obvious this is a Disney inspired plague to bring down Trump. I'm not normally a big one for conspiracy theories, but that seems solid whichever way you look at it. Get in now on the ground floor. Next week we'll have a YouTube video with an expert on cartoons causing viruses (and a big expose on how Sneezy from Snow White kicked off the Spanish Flu which ended WW2).

My honest belief is that it's pointless trying to argue Trumptards out of their beliefs.

Unfortunately, due to social media we are in for a spell where incredibly stupid and ignorant people will flourish like they haven't in a long time. They have been empowered by realising just how many other stupid and ignorant people there are in the world, and thanks to Facebook they can sequester themselves into mutually-affirming groups. And those groups are huge, because people who believe conspiracy theory x also tend to believe conspiracy theory y, and also tend to vote for politician z.

This is a grand populist movement, like the sleeping giant that Orwell constantly spoke of in Big Brother has finally roused itself from slumber. For people who care about the truth it is depressing.

And ignoring them might seem like giving in, since this mass of people has been responsible for the rise of Trump, Brexit, Bolsonaro, etc. But in the long run people who value truth will win out, for the simple reason that we are more effective. Our beliefs track reality more effectively, and that is enough to be a permanent advantage. Already the American right, cannibalised by this populist anti-truth, pro-Trump movement, is sundering under the weight of cognitive dissonance. The GOP, the party that has offered itself up in sacrifice to these morons, is in deep, existential trouble. It will spend the next four years being pulled in opposite directions by those who want to realign the party on the one hand and on the other hand those who want to live in Donald Trump's lib-owning funland forever. The possibility of Trump running again in 2024 must have Democrats salivating. And look at the utter shambles of Brexit. Every day there's another disastrous unforeseen consequence that we'll have to suffer through because rational people were outvoted by the same kind of low-information reality-deniers that voted for Trump, and think 5G is alien ray beams, and Bill Gates eats kiddies' brains, etc.

Basically, this is a horrible adjustment period, a bit like being forced to let your toddler drive the car to work for four years. After a while the minimal appeal of this approach begins to wear off and people start realising that maybe the truth is quite valuable after all. Whoever thought up QAnon was a genius since it gives a person who decides to believe it no way out. All politicians on both sides are in on it, so is the CIA FBI the military MSM, etc. Once they've had the kool-aid it's next to impossible to convince them of anything else and as the author said the internet offers them much in the way of like minded people who enforce each others viewpoint. That there are so many of them and that they vote is the scary part.
