--Actual rating 3.5 Skulls

Sinful Surrender is the first book in a new series set in a highly thought out dystopian society. There are multiple groups of people - those living underground, those living in the post-apocalyptic aboveground, those living in space, the meshing of all of the above, etc - each at war with the other in some capacity, and each trying to do what we would all do. Survive. Houston did a wonderful job of outlining each of these in a glossary at the beginning of the book so that when the action started, readers weren't confused and set up the world beautifully. I found this extremely helpful, and the world building was incredibly unique and fascinating.

Our heroine, Fay, is a Dirt Dweller. Living underground in a society where sexuality is illegal for anything other than procreation, and even then, coming only as part of a lottery to curb overcrowding. She's also a mind traveller, and knows, through her psychic travels, that she's not like most Dirt Dwellers. She's a sensual human being. Therefore, when the opportunity arrises for her to leave her home and travel among the Airbornes she jumps at it despite it being forbidden.

Our heroes, Arlo, Drakker, and Logan, are a group of Airborne brothers. Logan is the leader of the Airbornes, and his brothers each are each a compliment to his personality. When Fay is discovered by Arlo and Drakker, she is brought back to their home and interrogated. Not only to find out if she's a spy for the Dirt Dwellers, but also as sort an audition to be their wife.

What did I love about the book? I really enjoyed the range of characters and the vastly unique world building. I also liked the action and the intrigue.

What stopped me from giving it more than 3.5 skulls? A lot of the sexual encounters felt like sex on the page for the sake of hot, erotic, sex on the page to me and actually overshadowed the plot in places. The other thing that bothered me a bit was the quickness with which they all fessed to their feelings. All except Logan. Within one scene of Fay regaining consciousness, Arlo had a thought that he could love her, and before they even had determined if her being there was nefarious, Drakker had asked her to consider being the brothers' wife. And lastly was the terminology. There were some biological terms used in sexy situations that just weren't sexy to me, but, of course, every reader is different...

So, bottom line, would I recommend Sinful Surrender? Yes. If you're looking for a highly erotic and awesomely unique new Sci-Fi, this would be a good one to pick up. It's steamy and the underlying plot thread is compelling. My only suggestion would be to go into it expecting the fact paced 'insta-love' romance and sexual encounters of a para-erotic novella instead of a full length book. I know that other readers will probably absolutely love this book, I just couldn't personally give it more than 3.5 skulls.
