This book was a decent read. Unfortunately I lost a bit of interest in it throughout the second half. Not that it was bad, but I think it would have been better as novellas than a single book. It felt disjointed in a way when Imogen transitioned. I did enjoy it in spite of that feeling.

*I received a copy of this book for free. The review is my own, honest and unsolicited.

Kept my interest. Quick easy read. Left a lot of questions unanswered though.

Dark and disturbing, yet ultimately a compelling read. Monsters are real, but not all of them are non-human.

The plot is stark, each scene driving the question of who survives. Or even more so, who wants to survive? Characters are complex, each holding their own seeds of salvation or descent into monster.

This isn't a light, joyful read. Rather it's a story that will leave you thinking long after you've read the last page.

A boy of about 12 writes a diary in a basement where torture, rape, murder are normal. His parents have been murdered and his older sister, Erin, is with him. The boy writes about those who are also in the basement, trying to cope, or not, with the situation. The only possibility to survive is to escape this place.
Ashley also 12, flees after her father has been murdered and his girlfriend abducted. In a motel, she meets Juniper, a prostitute with a special gift, who asks her friend, Christopher, for help.
The city or, rather, the whole world goes berserk. There are monsters, demons lurking. Fight or die...

Red Harvey presents a very dark side of the human being in this apocalyptic story, leaving you with an uncomfortable feeling. You have to read carefully to discover that there is still love and hope.

The story of the boy, Ashley and Juniper is deeply moving, the ending either optimistic or pessimistic, depending on the reader.

The book is a high concentration of negative: the torture and rape scenes are very detailed; there is strong language.

I would not recommend this book if you love life... or if you are depressed...
If you like gore, this book is for you.
