Douglas Halford

This is another interesting (and often humorous) collection of real experiences. The author writes well and seems to have a wealth of medical knowledge up his sleeve, ensuring his stories include accurate and relevant details (especially when he includes an explanation of a procedure for us non-medical folk). I really enjoyed reading the physician’s perspective on medical interactions, and I appreciated his helpful categorisation of the different stories (patient, doctor, in the community, etc). Some of these stories will make you laugh and others will make you facepalm - it seems fairly well-rounded in that regard haha.

This book is about various medical stories (some real, some fictionalized), and the experiences of the writer, Dr. Douglas Halford, in the UK.

The book overall was engaging. The various tales were interesting, and for the most part easy to follow. While some things may not translate well to a more international audience due to the social policies in the UK being varied from those of, say, the US, there was enough context given that any reader should be able to understand why some things were done the way they were.

Recommended for those who enjoy short (mainly true) stories and medical story collections.… (mais)
