Not really anything new in the book: eat healthy, exercise, get enough sleep; fix ways to relax and de-strees; have a social life.
The Right Road is one of a growing number of books that aim to describe balanced lives for pastoral ministers. Gwen Wagstrom Halaas is both a doctor and the wife of a Lutheran minister; additionally, she has served on a denominational group which served to address issues of health and wellness for clergy.
The book breaks clergy health into several specific categories: physical, emotional, intellectual, social/interpersonal, vocational, and spiritual. Halaas mixes a fictional (but researched) case study with practical advice under each of these categories.
On the whole, this is a solid book, notable for its brevity and for its readibility. Unfortunately, as is often the case with practical ministry books, it seems cursory, as if its imagined reader would either dislike the book or not understand it if it were more detailed.… (mais)
