Ashe was once the King of Nightmares, known as the King Killer, the Kyn Assassin and the Sandman. He is feared amongst the kyn. When he is set free to rescue the Queen of the boodkyn Diana, he needs to enlist the help of a half-breed, whether she's willing or not.

Callasandra 'Callie' Lovel is not only lightkyn, she's also deathkyn. Her lightkyn mother abused her, undermining her at every turn. When Callie meets Ashe and comes to realize and accept her deathkyn nature she blooms as her powers grow.

This story is set in 2116, where the kyn have outed themselves to the humans but they still war on each other. Diana was betrayed and cursed the kyn, years later she's abducted by the lightkyn and the deathkyn King is determined to have her rescued, even if it means releasing the former King of Nightmares.

While there were a few jumpy and vague parts in the story, overall I loved this world and the various kyn. The acceptance and embracing of their nature and their willingness to do whatever it takes to rescue and avenge their own. Excellent first book in the series, I can't wait to find out more about the various kyn and their world.
