An interesting, but ultimately unsatisfying read. The pacing is OK and the book was easy to read, but I really only got vested in a few of the many characters.

Our young Heroine,Emily,is left abandoned when her parents are taken by the Shadow Kings army and her house is burnt to the ground. Even though she is very scared she is determined to find her parents and set them free. On her quest she shows how brave she is and remembers things her parents have taught her.Does Emily defeat the Shadow King? Is she reunited with her parents? Well you will just have to buy the book to find out.
This is a well written childrens book and I think would be suitable for parents to read to children from 5 years and older children to read by themselves. Lots of area for discussion here, like feeling scared , being brave,believing in yourself.
The ending is very good. I think both parent and child would like this.… (mais)

As the first in a series this sets the scene and describes the main players and the world they inhabit. I enjoyed the story and the writing style is easy to follow
