3.5 stars rounding up. This is a middle grade novel. Sweet themes of a daughter/father relationship and a child with a passion for writing. Difficult theme of dealing with a distant parent. I loved the writing advice from the author character and character development.

Bright, vibrant and bold, this book displays the wide variety Earth holds with artistic flair.

These pages celebrate life and Earth in a playful and lively way. The writing flows smoothly as various aspects of life and things on Earth are mentioned. From animals to people to oceans, the large amount of variety on the planet comes to life.

The illustrations head in a more artistic direction, but also hold enough detail to leave much for listeners to view, search for, and enjoy. Most things are easy to recognize. Everything is bold and created with a joyful flair. While the various aspects are shown, there's also a clear, interconnected sense to everything to demonstrate that nothing stands alone, but that everything on our planet influences something else.

This is a more atmospheric read, which allows good feelings to flow, while building up a respect for everything around us. It would be a nice edition to a classroom, and I see it as especially being useful to set the tone for several social study themes.

Jane wants to become a famous author like Jane Austen. She's forced to hang out with one of her favorite author's annoying sons and navigate her mom having a new fiancé.
I probably wouldn't have this book in my elementary classroom; it's not written for young kids. If I knew an older student who was dealing with family stuff I might recommend this book.

I absolutely loathed this book. It has a completely unrealistic view of fat kids based solely off of stereotypes. The kid is only 300 lbs. but can barely walk without feeling like dying? And he's described as being pretty tall, so all in all, he wouldn't be that big, fat-wise. Being a big person myself, I found this distasteful and think that [a: K.L. Going|1046844|K.L. Update 9/2016: I keep getting hits on this review, and comments like I have no idea what a fat person is. I was offended because I am an obese and tall person and felt this book did not portray what I have experienced in my own life accurately. Of course, this is based on personal opinion and experience but that's what a review is. You can disagree.
