The description of this book is pretty all-encompassing and sums up the book quite well, but I did enjoy the frank look at intimate relationships without the weight of religious judgement attached. There are plenty of real-life examples from the author's experience as a marriage therapist to appeal to all different types of couples.

I really really enjoyed this book. I think the author had a lot of good points and I couldn't help but think of my own relationship. I do think this is a book all couples should read, even if there's no problem, just to understand what happens and get a better grasp on how to handle things. I will be putting this on my husbands book shelf and telling him when he has time to read it.

This book tackles some of the major topics that are important in long term relationships. The author does a good job of providing different points of views on each topic, so even though you may not agree with someone's position on a tough topic, like kinky sex or acceptance of extramarital affairs, you can at least get an appreciation on where the thought comes from. There are a lot of statistics in each section, which is interesting, but sometimes becomes overwhelming and makes it difficult to recognize the important information beyind the numbers.… (mais)

ARC review: Grammatical corrections. Very queer friendly (lgbtqia+), well researched, secular, shameless, can be used by therapists and people who seek therapy, Makes a statement, needs to mention Ace representation in people who do not need sex or romance connections in their long term relationships, great mention of BDSM in safe and healthy ways.Would make a great audiobook. Personal remarks- I recently got broken up with by someone I might have loved and being friends right now is definetly a coping thing but they will always be the person I want more than anyone so reading this concurrently with "All about love" by Bell Hooks was a lot. I come from an abusive (paternal) parent that I call "sperm donor" and insecure abused mother. Divorced when I was like two did not need to be together or even have me but society makes women feel guilty about stuff like that Plus my mother was lonely. I have been super unlucky with not finding someone and not being found. I rue the day more hormones activated at 10 years old. I would rather not want romantic or sexual connections and live freely. I am very much a pessimist but nothing has shown me that I am wrong to believe there is no love out there for me. I think this book would benefit a lot of people. I enjoyed the variety and real life scenarios. As a queer black cis woman of Jamaican descent (1st gen) this is super helpful if it was something I was actually able to do but I will definetly be sending it to all my friends who do relationships.… (mais)
