Summary: the book i am working on is called Everything Insects. It’s a book on learning about certain insects and what they do. Insects live everywhere every continent,in every country and every city, schoolyard, backyard, even in our homes.they live inside, outside,in the sky,in the trees, and in plants, and underground. Some scientists are called:Entomologists. Entomologist’s are people that study insects.there are over 20,000 million different species of bees.one of the best known species of bees are the honey bees. Honey bees nest in colonies where workers feed the larvae. There also some bugs or insects that are actually not insects they are called arachnids. Arachnids are certain insects that have 8 legs not 6 such as the spider and the scorpion.

Opinion: my opinion on this book is that it was a good book. It had lots of good information like what kind of insects there are in the world, what the insects do to survive, defend themselves, and migrate. I would give this book 3 and a half stars. What i liked about this book is that it taught me allot about bugs and other creatures such as arachnids, Etc.

There are two things I like about this book and those are the way it was written and the illustrations/pictures used. The big message of this book is to inform the reader about the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. The book examines the many different practices and observances made by people on this special holiday of remembrance.
The writing in this book engages the reader and keeps them interested in the story by using outstanding detail and factual information. Throughout the book the writing gives detailed and elaborate information about the holiday and everything it represents. For example, in the section where it is explaining alters and offering it states “The ofrenda, or altar, is an offering to the dead.” This section of text not only explains what the altar is used for but also gives information about what an altar is called in Mexico. These descriptive and informational passages help the story flow well and keep the reader interested as they gain knowledge of the holiday.
The other amazing part of this book is its use of live action pictures. Each picture in the book shows an example of what the written text is describing and also includes more textual information helping to link the picture and writing together. An example of this is the picture of a boy cleaning off a grave to prepare it for an altar to be built on top of it above the picture it states “This boy is cleaning a grave. People help clean and decorate the graves of those who do not have any living family or friends.” Pictures accompanied by text like above are all throughout the story and add a sense of depth to the story allowing the reader to grasp a fuller comprehension of the many aspects of the holiday Day of the Dead.

This is a quick read about Henry Hudson and his search for the Northwest Passage. Although it is a series book from "In the Footsteps of Explorers" it is a good book to use in the classroom when studying The Age of Exploration. The print is large and the pages are attractively displayed. The author provides information that would appeal to students such pictures of weevils and someone suffering from frostbite. There are historical illustrations as well as modern color photography that complements the material in the text. The Content page is organized in an interesting, chronological manner. The headings for each section are bold and draw the reader to the page. The book gives a very brief history of Hudson and his travels, but it would be very useful in an elementary classroom. The author includes a glossary of terms and students could easily read this book on their own. I plan to use this book next year in my social studies class; I wish I had located it sooner! It is even an Accelerated Reader book which might encourage even more students to read it.… (mais)
