This was a fast and interesting read.

First of all, this is book 3 in a series. I have not read the first two books, and came into this not knowing what to expect. The book started off as a standard action thriller. Men breaking into buildings to set fires. And then it backtracks 8 days to tell the story of why they are starting the fires. So far pretty standard stuff, and pretty interesting storytelling too.

Suddenly, a paranormal element is introduced into the story. I was a little surprised, based on the way the first section of the book was written. But if I had read the description, I would have realized that this was a paranormal book. I enjoy reading paranormal stories, so I was ok with the direction the story went.

The last half of the book is an adventure through a portal to an alternate world. Lots of strange, imaginative creatures trying to kill our heroes. I thought that the world was very intricate, and exciting to read about. The monsters were truly horrific. And the camaraderie between John Hazard and his crew seemed realistic.

I enjoyed reading this book. There were many references to book 2 of the series, which made me want to read that one too. I think this is a good series.… (mais)

I think a lot of young adults will like this and if the series stays as action-packed as this one it will be a hit. Jake is just celebrating his 18th birthday. He's moved around a lot but he's pretty happy now. He has a job, a girlfriend and friends. All that's about to change though because his grandmother has been lying to him and he's about to find out why. Will definitely be reading the rest of the series.… (mais)
