Having lived near Boise and experienced what it's like there (just after the book was published), this book helped rip the whole community apart (perhaps for the best). In the land of folk who lean to the right of the religious spectrum, there lies a secret that acts as the "can opener." A transcript of interviews between John Gerassi and Sartre in 1970-74 covering a lot of different areas, but mainly Sartres life and political career, The Spanish Civil War, The Occupation of France, May 68 and the CP in the 50s as well as some of Srtres philosophy. Its a fascinating insight into how he grew into one of the most the influential 20th century thinkers, a lot on his early life, his musings on death, the meaning of fame, how society might be transformed, the political man, the human condition, plus odd facts like his considerable speed consumption during a period of at least a decade of writing, he certainly packed a lot in. Gerassi has a particular qualification in debating intimately with Sartre due to the formers friendship with his father (Fernando in Roads to Freedom). If you are interested in early 2oth C France, politics on paostwar Europe and existentalist thought - its an enjoyable and thought provoking insight into the man and his position in modern European thought and politics.… (mais)

Old. Contains some early writings on development theory by some leading writers such as Furtado. The introductory essay by Horowitz is strange and eccentric.
