Marjorie Garber tem 3 eventos passados. (show) Shakespeare 451 On the anniversary of Shakespeare's 450th birthday (2014) and the 400th anniversary of his death (2016), the George P. Lacay Endowed Lecture Fund has invited Professor Marjorie Garber to commemorate the occasion with a lecture in the ICC Auditorium. A reception will follow. A year ago, Shakespeareans all over the world were celebrating the 450th anniversary of the playwright’s birth; now, as 2016 approaches, they are gearing up for comparable celebrations, this time commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death. But what happens after the celebrations are over? What roles can Shakespeare, Shakespeare studies, and—especially-- the teaching of Shakespeare play in an educational environment increasingly focused on science, technology, engineering and math?

Marjorie Garber, Loaded Words “Masterfully bridging the gap between high culture and low, Garber’s witty, accessible essays give us surprising angles on a host of topics.” Jonathan Culler, Cornell University “ Marjorie Garber has crafted an impressive career built upon words. Whether looking at the time-tested plays of Shakespeare or the ephemeral discourses of contemporary culture, she takes nothing about language for granted. Spirited master of both high and low, she compellingly demonstrates that the words we thought we knew are full of unexpected turns, shifts in meaning, and double dealings. This new collection of essays is at once vintage Garber and richly surprising.” Nancy J. Vickers, Bryn Mawr College
