Excellent explanation of what Machine Learning is (as distinct form AI), and some very practical use cases

Going into this, I was expecting this book to be a mix of Steven Levitt (Freakonomics) and Alfie Kohn (Unconditional Parenting), maybe with some funny sprinkled throughout. Instead, I get this very awkward, stale book -- no new insights, which was a prime disappointment. Most of the other pop economics books out there are great for getting you to think about everyday life in new ways, and this book just didn't have enough of that.

And while there are some funny bits, much of it feels forced and awkward. Reading it left me picturing an author who is funny at faculty parties and as a lecturer, but whose only writing experience had been academic journal articles and textbooks, and who just didn't quite feel comfortable bringing the casual funny side of himself to writing.… (mais)
