Resenhas

I couldn’t even remember why I bought this book once I started reading it. The stories were horrible and very hard to read. Though I only made it through one and a half stories I felt as though my IQ points were dropping like flies. I couldn’t see any rhyme or reason for any of the stories that I read and there seemed to be only one main theme to each one and that was sex, and not the kind of sex that I really wanted to read about EVER.

This book of short stories was apparently the author's break out book. The stories are mainly in New York, mostly involving women in masochistic relationships. The characters are often unpleasant, sometimes cringey. As a result, I couldn't read this book very fast.

But the writing is so good! I couldn't not finish it.

A story of awakening compassion. As with much of her writing, Gaitskill takes me back to my youth.

Just couldn't connect

As I put in the title, I just couldn't connect with this. There are two stories here, and from the beginning the author hops back and forth between the two. Sometimes that can work, but when you're halfway through it and there is still no apparent connection, it gets annoying. Particularly when neither has any apparent point by halfway through.
