Wow! Powerful novel about extreme human emotions within both regular social environments and in extreme environments, i.e. high-up in a mountain's thin air.

Alice Loudon is not content with her routine life and is easily seduced by a handsome stranger. They marry quickly, and while having great sex her life is deteriorating and disconnecting from reality.

Fortunately as a scientist Alice is naturally curious and reads and learns all she can about Adam, his friends and clients and finally connects the dots to find the truth.

Compelling read.

Nicci French used to be one of my favourite mystery crime authors. I still have a few unread titles on my bookshelf, so I thought to revisit this author. Maybe I have aged, or my palate has changed, as it has turned out to be an average read for me now.

Tuesday's Gone is the second book from the Freida Klein's series. I have not read any from this series and it can be read as a standalone as I didn't feel the gap. It somehow reminds me of the many female detective series like Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta or Ann Cleeve's Vera Stanhope, though on a different setting / premise. It definitely suited as a TV miniseries with the way it was written with all the extra fillers / subplots. Hence, I just couldn't wait to finish the book, to get to the end. The ending though, was kinda confusing for me as it sort of did a round robin and then the killer was found... so much for the anticipation. I do think that it will pan out nicely on TV though.

Anyway, there are many new cozy mysteries popping up, I am spoilt for choice now! So, I plan to pick up books from my TBR piles on and off with the hopes to finish it all and not hoard any more books *fingers crossed* So, here's 1 of the many...

Dark Saturday is the 6th book in the Freida Klein series of crime stories written by the husband and wife team of Nicci French. It’s been awhile since I read one of these dark and complex books but I still found the set up and the characters interesting. Following psychotherapist Freida Klein allows the reader not only to meet depressed and unhappy people, but also to meet an entire group of characters who support and help Freida in her quests.

In this outing Freida has been called upon to investigate a thirteen year old crime where 18 year old Hannah Docherty was arrested for the brutal murder of her family. The case was quickly brought to court and Hannah has been incarcerated in a gruesome secure hospital ever since. Freida finds it all too easy to identify with Hannah and finds that her questions and concerns are being deflected by all involved parties which only makes her dig that much deeper. When one of her witnesses is murdered she realizes that someone is desperately trying to cover their thirteen year old tracks.

Dark Saturday is an excellent entry into this compelling series. Although we see very little of Frieda’s policeman friend Karlsson, it was interesting tosee Frieda taking over and acting much like a detective would. There was also an advancement on the story of Frieda’s stalker and one can sense that this story arc is coming to a head. I am looking forward to the next book, Sunday Silence.
