Every once in a while you run across an absolute gem in the HP world. For me this one hit it out of the ball park.

This one had a very different set up and I don't want to say too much about it because that would spoil the story. The heroine is a street busker and the hero picks her up. Needless to say I loved the sarcastic plucky heroine and the long suffering hero was nice too. Lots of plot.

I realized just recently that I have enjoyed every Alison Fraser book I've read and I am disappointed that her backlist is so short.… (mais)

I enjoyed this slightly different HP. The heroine was an ex-con who wasn't actually innocent like they usually are and also she was very cold and closed off. She was bitter and standoffish. I totally enjoyed her.

Well done secret baby story. I enjoyed the spunk of the heroine. She had been down but, while not rolling in it, was doing okay. The hero couldn't tell immediately that the boy was his. So that was different and a good set up. The boy was well written and an interesting kid. The hero was a nice guy with moments of jerkiness. The story basically was not a bickerfest but rather a getting to know each other again after 10 years and realizing that they had adult and permanent feelings for each other. The heroine had a lot of years of being treated emotionally poorly by her family to overcome and the hero helped with that.

The pacing of the story was very well done. I've noticed that in a lot of recent HPs, the books are made up of relatively few but extremely long scenes and I really hate that. Here the scenes were a reasonable length and there were plenty of them. That allows time to pass so there is not that silly insta love feeling to the story. The dialog was also well done.

This newer HP kind of felt like one from the 80s. There were more staid heroes with zany type heroines back then. Lately those have been almost forgotten. This one didn't have the OTT tiaras and Tuscan villas but a more normal feel as he was a doctor. Granted she was a minor rock star. Still the relationship was well developed and fun to read and the people seemed real. I enjoyed it.
