Published to accompany the exhibition of the title of 2008-2009.

Looking at Italian painting from 1891 to 1910, this survey of what is described as the most significant art movement to emerge in Italy during the last decades of the nineteenth century, considers the work of around fourteen Italian painters.

The book contains four essays: Italian Divisionism and its Legacy, Divisionist Painting Techniques, Divisionism to Futurism: Art and Social Engagement, and Divisionism's Symbolist Ascent. The plates section covers 58 pages. The book concludes with Notes on Artists and Paintings covering 50 pages, a Chronology, Bibliography and an Index.

With the excpetions of a few period photographs the book is Illustrated in full colour throughout with Over 70 plates up to full page in size, along with 30 or more smaller images and numerous thumbnails illustrating the Notes section.

This is a beautifully produced book, the quality of colour reproduction is excellent with the rich vibrant colours of some of the paintings contrasting with the more sombre and subtle tones of others.… (mais)
