Brer Rabbit's New Book of Molasses Recipes
I love vintage cookbooks, especially the ones that companies gave away to advertise their products. This is a lovely one, with nice black and white illustrations of yummy dishes and delighted-looking children in period dress. Downgraded one star for the recipes that call for lard!
So I grabbed this 'cause there's one recipe I love that uses molasses, which of course leaves three-quarters of a bottle of molasses in the cupboard indefinitely.
...now I just want to buy a case of dark molasses and spent the next three weeks baking. mmm, gingerbread. mmmm, shoo-fly pie. mmmm, molasses ice cream, frosting, pop-corn balls, marinade, spice cookies, griddle cakes, chop suey, Christmas pudding, eggnog, raisin sauce...
The date is 1948 and the byline is New Orleans, and I know I'm not a good enough cook to pull half of these off, but mmmm, do I want to.… (mais)
