"Piece of Chalk" is a light-hearted story about art, imagination, and positive outlooks. When rain washes away her picture, a little girl learns the importance of looking on the bright side of things. Instead of being sad about the rain, she gets to be happy about the fact she gets to draw another picture. This sweet tale about a girl who loves drawing with sidewalk chalk is cheery and fun.

I absolutely loved the children fictional story, She Did It, for two specific reasons: the illustrations and the language. Within the story the illustrations and the language send a clear and vivid message that blaming others for your own actions will not solve any issues.

The illustrations are a bit much, but they fit the mood of the story just right. The four sisters in the story are all very wild to say the least. Thus, the illustrations portray each one of the sister’s personalities. Within the illustrations the girls are pouring jam on kitchen chairs, playing with their cereal and milk, having a pillow fight, squirting tooth paste everywhere, laughing, giggling, and then it all turns into a fight at the end. The illustrations are really fun to look at while reading this story.

Next, the language in this story rhymes, which, in my opinion, makes this book more engaging to its readers, and consequently, also fitting the mood of the story. The language is just so cheerful and playful. An example in the text that supports my opinion is this: “Four sisters in the yard. Four sisters playing hard. Digging sand, riding bikes, twisting swings, flying kites. Bouncing balls, climbing trees. Tossing mud into the breeze.”

I believe it’s a must read!

This is a nice little story about the world a little girl is able to create using chalk in her driveway. It uses great descriptive words and gives good examples when talking about color. I enjoyed the way it ended with everything being washed away and she realizes that her imagination can now take her to an entirely different place this time around. It's a never ending cycle of fun through creativity.
