This beautifully illustrated heavy catalogue is a nice present for the 300th anniversary of the battle of Blenheim in 2004. The sumptuous illustrations of the catalogue highlight the Baroque art, religiosity and lifestyle. I particularly like the English silver talisman which should have protected its wearer from bodily harm but did not fulfill this. Its ownership shifted to a Bavarian officer. It is not noted whether the Bavarian officer fared better with it.

The catalogue's essays focus on Bavaria. From a military point of view, the essays on the organization of the Bavarian army (which abolished the pike in 1687 and equipped its infantry with new guns and bayonets in 1700) and Marcus Junkelmann's account of the campaign and battle with beautiful color battle maps (unfortunately again, on a too consolidated level).
