About the Author

Bradford Dillman was born in San Francisco, California on April 14, 1930. He received a bachelor's degree in literature from Yale University in 1951. He served in the Marines during the Korean War and reached the rank of first lieutenant before his discharge in 1953. He began acting professionally mostrar mais in 1953. In 1956, he played Edmund Tyrone in the original Broadway production of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night. He received a 1957 Theater World Award and a contract with 20th Century Fox. He appeared in numerous films including Compulsion, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact, and The Iceman Cometh. He received a Golden Globe for most promising newcomer in 1959 and a Daytime Emmy Award in 1975 for his work on the TV series The ABC Afternoon Playbreak. He also wrote fiction and nonfiction books. His novels included That Air Forever Dark and Kissing Kate. His nonfiction works included Inside the New York Giants, Dropkick: A Football Fantasy, and Are You Anybody? An Actor's Life. I discovered after I survived this book and got into doing graduate level political economy theory readings that I actually really enjoy political economy as a topic, but this book was a bit annoying. By the end of it I still couldn't really define political economy as a subject, because the book was so vague about defining it, and since this subject is an amalgamation of several subjects, the whole book came across as jumbled and unconvincing. In addition I really disagreed with this book's treatment of global warming. It did not fit with what I know already from my ecology degree and past reading and coursework on the subject.… (mais)

Delightful, funny memoirs of actor Brad Dillman, TV and movie villain and star of the cult films Piranha and Bug. The book is a collection of anecdotes, many hilarious, about his years in Hollywood. He talks about his acting experiences and famous friends, acting for newbies, stunts, and why being a villain sitting at a desk giving orders is better than the hero who is on the move all the time, racking big and little injuries like James Arness who accumulated so much wear and tear during years of Humanoid that his functioning was quite limited the last year's of the show's run. Many of Dillman's stories are hilarious and I only wish it has been longer and with more photos -- only one family photo. Best of its kind.… (mais)
