Jana Dennis

The Neighborhood Story Project is a community documentary program located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Another addition to this program, Palmyra Street tells the story of Jana Dennis and her family living on Palmyra Street. She tells her story through interviews, photos, and vignettes, creating a captivating portrait of a block moving through a state of change. No stone is left unturned--she talks about central meeting places on the block, the ice cream truck, the nearest grocery store, and has personal interviews with many of her neighbors.

An added advantage of this book is that it gives an inside perspective on masking with the Mardi Gras Indians, as Jana talks about how her family joined with the Golden Feathers tribe.
