I've read a lot about the Killer Jerry Lee Lewis over the years so it's always interesting to read something new about him. Unconquered does tease a few new details but in the end I was more interested in the stories of the other two famous Ferriday cousins; Jimmy Lee Swaggart and Mickey Gilley.

All three tackled the grinding poverty of their youth to make something of themselves and while Gilley comes across as the one you would feel safest having a drink with, I found the author's portrayal of Swaggart considerably more sympathetic than I've seen elsewhere. Whether Swaggart deserves that sympathy is probably up to the individual reader.

One minor gripe; Jerry Lee Lewis is referred to as Jerry throughout. I'm so used to the Killer being Jerry Lee that it took me a while to undiscombobulate myself.

This was a goodreads giveaway. I thoroughly enjoyed this well written, extremely well researched book. Well done Mr. Davis. I didn't know much about these 3 men before reading this book but certainly enjoyed learning about them. It was well written and enjoyable to read.
