Eugenia Scarvalis Constantinou

In my work I've noticed how few Greek manuscripts of Revelation seem to have survived, and how often these manuscripts include commentary by Andrew of Caesarea. This curiosity led me to Dr. Constantinou's own commentary on Andrew, which answered some of my questions. Her account of the late acceptance of Revelation in the East, as well as the historical context surrounding Andrew of Caesarea's commentary and its enduring popularity, are very good. The book was marred slightly, however, by occasional generalizing asides about "the Eastern mind," its capacity for paradox and purity from the tainting effects of philosophy and scholasticism. Those sounded more like they belonged on convert blogs I used to frequent than in a work of scholarship.… (mais)
