Ray Charles Colton

An older book (1950's), I suspect it may have been superseded on various topics, but it is a good short survey of the history of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah during the Civil War years, including Union-Confederate battles and skirmishes (mainly in New Mexico), Indian battles, and political events in the four territories. The accounts of the war in New Mexico are lively and informative. The rest is covered in a rather formulaic style, cut and dry in a reference book manner, but covers the ground in some detail.
