Jayanit is considered a Nis'sahāya and is considered unworthy of Rakshasa. She wasn't suppose to live and pass their trial but she did. At every subsequent trial, it's her death if she can't figure it out. They are conditioning her to become a monster but she resists. This is not her complete story but just the beginning.

As a reviewer I try to steer away from genres or plotlines I don't care for, but if I do happen to review such a book I acknowledge it in my review. This story had a lot of good interesting ideas but I don't care for people to be forced into sexual practices that go against their beliefs. As part of Jayanti's trials she is forced to become intimate with a woman or die. Both women, had no previous lesbian tendencies and it was also against their religious beliefs. While they eventually found comfort and love with each other, it was a difficult section to read. I am voluntarily reviewing this book I received from Booksprout, but it should have some warning for sensitive readers. There are several non-consensual activities, as the trials try to force Jayanti to shed her humanity.
