Short and funny book about the end of the world (believe it or not). The demons will consume all of mankind if the humans can't make it to the portal to be whisked away into another world. Teenagers Vincent and Max happen to come from a religious family - some kind of fundamentalist cult called the Triumvirites and, although the Triumvirites believe in the end of the world, they don't believe people should be consorting with pixies, elves, and demons.

Yes, this book got weird. It was rather violent, too. Nothing serious but a lot of punching and getting thrown around rooms. Must be a guy thing. Lots of tongue in cheek digs at Christian fundamentalists (in a light-hearted sort of way.)

I possibly would have liked this better if the elves hadn't been so - well, mean. They weren't really, really mean but they did some damage. It was a bizarre read with a few funny moments.

I really had a hard time with this book. Now it is intended for a young adult audience of which I am decidedly not. I had a hard time following the plot which seemed to write the main character into a corner, then he mysteriously escapes. Yeah it's that type of story but ,c'mon! And the local priest knows about his 'hobby' of conjuring a demon and using it to discover, among other things, that God doesn't think being gay is wrong. WOW!

If taken at face value and just read as fluff, it still comes across as incredibly formulaic. I wouldn't reccomend this book to anyone!… (mais)

The Cupid War is a very unique novel with a quirky cast of characters and an unusual plot. While it wasn't everything I was hoping for, it was still a fun read.

The novel starts off in a very dark place with Fallon wanting to kill himself. After his accidental death Fallon is thrown into the life of a Cupid, someone who must help people fall in love, a task he's not all to happy with. He soon discovers that without Cupids in the world, dark entities called Suicides would destroy the world of love. Part of his job is to make sure that doesn't happen.

At times Fallon can be quite unlikable, I think this has more to do with his circumstance then attitude but at times I felt he was to much of a smart mouth. Since the novel jumps ahead several times, it really feels as though Fallon masters his cupid training very fast and I actually would have preferred to see more of how he developed those skills.

I really enjoyed the character of Trina. I like how she has a bit of an attitude like Fallon but isn't as abrasive. My favorite parts of the novel were her and Fallon's interactions. The fact that she can hear him and the others Cupids allows for some really funny banter between the two.

Although I felt the plot was a bit too obvious, I still found it fun to read. I think the subject matter might turn some people off but I give the author a lot of credit for trying to tackle an issue which is quite sensitive to a lot of people. I think its lovely to think of a world where depression can be cause/explained by a supernatural creature.

The ending to the novel was surprisingly sweet and I'm glad the author tied up all the loose ends. The Cupid War is a quick, easy read for anyone looking for something a little bit funny, a little bit dark and a little bit different.
