I sadly did not like this book as much as I had wanted to. It certainly wasn't bad, it just wasn't my cup of tea. The plot synopsis sounded very intriguing with the secret time travel government project. I rarely read time travel books and I surprisingly enjoyed this aspect of the novel. On the other hand, the romance of the book did not appeal to me. I would've enjoyed the book just as much without the love interests (there is a minor love triangle, but it's not a colossal part of the plot). One of the reasons I didn't love it as much as I was hoping was probably because I read it when I had free time in small increments. This caused the flow of the story to be ruined and the more choppy the plot of a book is for me, the more I have to focus to get reengaged with the story which is also why I didn't connect to the characters very well. But overall it wasn't a bad read, just not the book for me. I will still read the second one though since I own it.… (mais)

I received This Strange and Familiar Place for free through GoodReads FirstReads. Ok, so I probably should have read the first book before reading this one, but oh well. It made sense for 99% of the book. I actually really liked this book. The whole time travel concept has always been hard for me to follow while reading, this is the first book involving time travel that I actually finished. And enjoyed.

Perfect for fans of Jacqueline Wilson as this is a emotional story. How do you begin to tell your story when you can't speak but knew that you once did? Ethan lives on the canal. He likes it there. He can go to the pond and catch newts and minnows. He can learn everything he needs to know from books and from his mum & dad. No one there laughs at him because he doesn't talk. Ethan can't remember exactly when he stopped talking or why. It is only when he meets Polly, a girl who has recently moved to the canal, that he begins to wish things were different. He begins to communicate with her through a notebook.
Polly has her own issues to face as she misses her father and the home life that they had. Her mother recently parted from her husband and has taken Polly to live on the canal.
Polly befriends Ethan and together they discover why and when than lost his voice. I liked this story as it was a short story that had a happy ever after ending.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: The perfect ending to a magnificent series. This is a young adult sci-fi series you will not want to miss!

Opening Sentence: The dress is laid out on the bed, so dark red it looks black in the muted light of the hotel room.

The Review:

Seventeen year old Lydia Bentley never saw herself becoming a recruit for the Montauk Projects, but when they threatened the people she holds most dear in her life she agrees to do whatever they say. They keep telling her that this is her destiny and that the mission she is supposed to complete will change history forever. She is forced to do things she never thought possible and if she wants to survive she will have to learn to trust the one person that broke her heart.

Lydia hates the Projects and everything they have taken away from her. But she is just one of many that have had their life destroyed by the evil people that run the Montauk Project. When she is offered an opportunity to live in a world without the projects she jumps at the chance. But nothing in this world comes without consequences, and Lydia’s not sure she can live with herself if she loses anyone else she loves.

Lydia has grown enormously since the last time we saw her. She has been training to be a Project recruit for the last 9 months and not only has she changed physically, she has also changed emotionally. The training was vigorous and everything she has ever cared about has been taken away. But even though she has been through so much she is still essentially the same person. Perhaps she is a little bit more cynical, and not quite as naive as she once was, but she is still a good person that tries to do the right thing. I admired her strength and determination to never give up no matter how hard things get. My original connection with her was easily reestablished and just continued to grow throughout the entire series. I loved her character and I am sad to see her story end.

Wes is just as mysterious as ever and if it is possible, I fell even more in love with him. From the very first book I was drawn to him with his striking good looks and interesting life. He is a person you can rely on for anything and even though there are times when he will break your heart, getting to know him was totally worth it. He proves time and times again how dedicated he is to Lydia and I just loved him all the more for it. The chemistry between these two is electric and their romance is very believable. I think that Wes made the perfect love interest and I am glad I got to read his story!

First off, I have to say how much I adore the titles for the books in this series. I mean how awesome is the title Find Me Where the Water Ends? Plus, it actually goes perfectly with the book. But not only does it have a great title it was also an phenomenal story that was the perfect ending to this magnificent series! From the moment I picked up this book, I was completely hooked and couldn’t put it down until I finished it! It was action packed from page one and entertaining the whole way through. I also felt a slew of emotions while reading it which helped me really connect with the story. Carter has wonderful writing that is captivating and breathtaking! Sadly, this is the end of the series, but I will gladly read whatever Carter comes out with next. I would highly recommend this series to anyone that is looking for a stunning time travel story filled with romance and action!

Notable Scene:

She jerks the wheel to the left and the car angles so quickly that it seems we will flip over. MY stomach drops as if we were on a roller coaster, the very moment of descent. Time grips my hands in his as I squeeze my other one into the battered leather seat, trying to hold on.

“On the left!” I hear Wes shout, and then something slams into the side of the car in a blast of noise and sparks and screeching tires. I am thrown forward and feel Tim’s fingers slop away from mine. My body is in the air. My head collides with something hard. I fall back against the seat as the window explodes, as the metal erupts, and my body, just skin and blood and bones, is no match for the force of it.

FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of Find Me Where the Water Ends. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
