I liked this story told from a young boy's memory of his mother.

Mother loves Christmas, and every year she tries to make the holidays special for her family. She brings home a twelve-foot Christmas tree and buys so many gifts that young Jerry can't count them all. But then Jerry's father leaves the family, and everything changes. For the first time, Mother is unhappy at a Christmastime. Jerry and his brothers are determined not to let that happen again, and the next year, they decide to buy a Christmas tree to surprise her.
"When Mother Was Eleven-Foot-Four" is a moving story about what it means to be "a giver of gifts," and the beautiful illustrations perfectly capture the spirit of the story. Parents who like sharing this book with their children should check out the original version by the same title (unabridged and without illustrations).… (mais)
