Robyn Burnett’s Crash Into Me: The World of Roswell tells the story of the WB – later UPN – series Roswell, based on Melinda Metz’s Roswell High young adult novels, that ran from 1999-2002. The book begins with a summary of the Roswell Incident from 1947 based on information from International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico. From there, Burnett provides biographies of the principal series cast before discussing both the fan phenomenon, its efforts to save the series from cancellation, and the various fan sites that arose in the early 2000s. Following this discussion are sections featuring a quiz for fans of the show and in-jokes. The book concludes with an extensive episode guide of all three seasons of Roswell. Interspersed among the pages are production and promotional photographs. Burnett’s book will appeal to fans of Roswell, particularly those feeling nostalgic for the television of their high school years and the early Internet. The overall effect is similar to Jacqueline Lichtenberg, Sondra Marshak, and Joan Winston’s Star Trek Lives! study of fandom from 1975.… (mais)
