Ohmygosh… it doesn’t matter how many Holocaust books I read, they always hit so hard. And this was one was very powerful. As a Jew and a mother, it was even more heartbreaking to read. Having to decide whether or not to send your child off to another country or into hiding without you is the hardest decision any parent could make. But many parents knew that it was the only way to save them. I would have done the same thing. The drawings were absolutely gorgeous, like watercolors. Very soft but really evoked the sadness of the time. I appreciated the hard lines of the Nazis and Hitler, I felt that distinction was fitting. This was beautifully done as a graphic novel and I think it will be a great way to introduce the Holocaust to my 8 year old in a way that he can somewhat understand without having to go into the true horror of it.… (mais)

More of a visual history than a narrative, this books summarizes what happened to New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck. The art is absolutely stunning throughout, both moving and disturbing without being sensational. The text, however, is pretty stiff, especially in the beginning. It is a necessary and worthwhile record, but I'm not sure kids will be inclined to pick it up.

Much like [b:Drowned City: Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans|22749725|Drowned City Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans|Don Brown|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1407813959s/22749725.jpg|42295125], superb art is paired with largely stiff text. The language doesn't convey the urgency or drama which seems inherent in the story. Instead, Brown starts with the formation of the Rockies and works forward. :-/ If the reader has an existing interest in the Dust Bowl, this will probably carry more weight. Otherwise, this seems like a tough sell to me.… (mais)

Gr 5 Up—Narrated by Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, an 18th-century English poet and advocate for inoculation, this
well-executed graphic exposé chronicles vaccination innovations throughout history—including the COVID-19
vaccine. Decisive yet playful, the book presents information succinctly; the artwork is brilliantly rendered, with blue
and sepia tones adding a nostalgic wash to the clean, clear layouts.
