I just read this to prepare for a session I was giving at the Illinois School Library Media Association. It was there that I learned about LibraryThing (thanks, Sarah!).

From School Library Journal
Ideas for understanding the culture of today's youth, identifying their interests, and relating to the video-game generation are presented in a breezy, conversational style. Research is cited about teen reading habits and preferences, and about the most popular genres. Adult reference sources are given at the end of each chapter along with YA books mentioned. The chapter on choosing books identifies methods for the utilization of the Internet, and considerations selecting various genres. Techniques for booktalking cover such aspects as obtaining self-confidence, dealing with disruptions, and what to say (and not to say). "Seven Surefire Booktalking Methods" includes how to set a scene, ask a question, draw connections, focus on a character, hint at the plot, etc. The dos and don'ts outline pitfalls to avoid and tips to follow in working with an audience. Samples include bibliographic information, genre, and grade level. Booktalks utilizing other styles provide different approaches. A list of sources and electronic mailing lists for booktalkers are appended.
