Conhecimento Comum

Avery enjoyable and thorough exploration of Roosevelt’s role as a conservationist. It primarily deals with his time S president, but it does explore the early experiences and readings that shaped him into a “wilderness warrior.” Roosevelt is one of those complex characters who gets tarred by the brush of the person relating the stories. I think Brinkley managed to be fair, acknowledging the dual sides of Roosevelt’s nature.

Reading this book made me cry.
America should do better, there needs to be better planning, and better response when something happens.

This was not quite as good IMO as Brinkley's histories/biographies of the two President Roosevelts' environmental legacies because, lacking a central figure, the focus is more diffuse. Nonetheless, it was another enjoyable and well-researched piece by this author. This book had the added treat for me of surfacing information about events and persons from my early childhood about which I remembered hearing on the evening news.

I can't quite put my finger on why not.
Nonetheless, FDR's conservation accomplishments are most impressive (and the then-unpredicted negative consequences of some actions are disappointing).… (mais)
