With the exception of Pierre Pouchot's Memoirs, the best surviving French account (in English)of the French & Indian War in North America. An astute observer of the strategical and tactical, Bougainville's military record as as an army officer at Quebec in 1759 was not as sterling as he would have us believe, which probably explains why he switched to the French Navy in later life. His circumnavigation of the world was overshadowed by James Cook, who also fought at Quebec in 1759, but his name lives on in the flower of the same name and the Bougainvillea Islands.
My only beef is that EP Hamilton's translation is not as precise as it could be and thus the American Journals could benefit from a fresh new translation, as Brian Leigh Dunnigan has done with Pouchot's Memoirs.

A must have for any serious student of the the Seven years War in NA.
