- Ilse Bintig was born in Hamm, Germany. As a young woman, she wanted to become a journalist but was prevented by World War II and then post-war conditions. After the war, she studied education at university and taught for many years at primary and secondary schools in Hamm until retiring and devoting herself to her writing. Since 1984, she has published several children's books, short stories, and radio scripts.
