E. Lee Baumgarten

While the prices are no good in this book, especially at this late date (2021), the book is very useful for the original jacket prices listed, and for the listing on first edition identification marking used in the books. While some of this information is not perfect, I have found it to be good for the majority of the books I have researched in this volume. At times I have also referred to The Horn Book magazine or Publishers Weekly if I thought Baumgarten's information was possibly at fault. When you consider the sheer volume of titles listed, and how many books, had to be researched, you can forgive the occasional slip here or there. And you will find a number of the books listed with no jacket price or mention of identification, which is to be expected. I really doubt the prices in this volume were ever very reliable. Baumgarten did fairly well with the more common children's titles, but when it comes to rarer books, his prices were often even at the time out of whack.… (mais)
