Robert Phillips and Tom Baker first met in the early 1970's when they worked together at Grey Advertising in New York. Phillips was the copywriter and Baker the account executive on the Ford Motors account. They formed a friendship that has lasted over the years and continues to this day. Tom Baker enjoyed a successful career in the advertising world, winning many awards for the ads and commercials he produced. He now writes full time. Baker lives in a tree house in Santa Monica Canyon with his two beagles. He will be reading from his debut novel, The Sound of One Horse Dancing, published in October 2011. The book was recently named a finalist in NIEA, the 2012 National Indie Excellence Awards. Robert Phillips is Professor Emeritus at the University of Houston, where for years he was director of the creative writing program. He is the author of over thirty books of poetry, fiction and criticism. He has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Phillips will be reading from his forthcoming memoirs. He will reflect on his friendship with William Goyen, one of the most aclaimed Texas writers of the 20th Century. He will also read a short passage from his latest book, ICE HOUSE SKETCHES, set in Houston.
